New residential flats proposed for Tilgate Forest Business Park in Crawley

Published

Plans to transform a site at Tilgate Forest Business Park on Brighton Road into a new affordable housing development are due to go before Crawley Borough Council later this month.

Local developer, Lamron Developments have submitted proposals for 80 new flats, spread across two new four-storey buildings which, if consented, will be delivered by an affordable housing provider in order to help Crawley meet its pressing housing need.

The existing building, which sits on a large brownfield plot of land, has been vacant for a number of years. The site has had numerous planning permissions for an office development there, but despite 10 years of promoting the site to test the local market, it is clear that there is a lack of demand for additional commercial space in the area.

As such, Lamron Developments are now looking to make full use of the brownfield site by bringing forward a planning application which proposes a residential development there that is fully compliant with the Council’s policy on affordable housing provision.

 To summarise, the scheme will include:

  • The erection of two four-storey residential buildings;
  • 80 one and two-bedroom flats;
  • Policy compliant car parking at undercroft and surface level;
  • Communal private amenity space;
  • A significantly improved public realm.

The application has been submitted by Lamron Developments who have successfully worked on development projects in Redhill, Woking, Basingstoke, Theale, Alton and Farnborough. Lamron have a track record of significantly investing in areas in the South East of England and this scheme represents an endorsement of Crawley’s ability to deliver new, high-quality affordable housing for local people.

Speaking on the application, a spokesman for Lamron Developments said:

“After years of the site being vacant, we see a bright future for Tilgate Forest Business Park as a development dedicated to providing affordable housing in Crawley. This brownfield site can make a valuable contribution to meeting local housing need, which in turn reduces the pressure on green fields in the Borough.

Lamron, along with our partners, are committed to delivering a scheme that supports Crawley Borough Council’s long held objective to increase the supply of affordable housing. We are very hopeful of securing a planning consent at committee and we look forward to working with the council to deliver the scheme.”

The application is due to go before the planning committee shortly.
