Latest photos of fire at Ye Old Six Bells in Horley show 9th Century building escapes damage



Photos taken from the scene of the fire show an outbuildings roof totally devastated by fire.

Surrey Fire received a call last night at 19:44 and four appliances plus an aerial unit were sent.

Two of the units were from Surrey Fire and Sussex Fire sent another two to assist.

Fire crews were able to tackle the blaze without incident and there are not reports of any injuries.

The fire was extinguished at 22:30 last night.

A fire investigation is to continue today

Staff confirmed the pub will be closed today and updates will be given once the situation has been assessed.


Explosions heard as fire service attend bin fire in Southgate, Crawley



Residents around Sunningdale Court in Southgate Crawley last night were alarmed to hear loud explosions.

At around 8pm last night, 17th Sept, a fire in a bin store caused multiple loud bangs that could be heard around the area.

One witness posting on social media said:

“it sounded so loud with 3 explosions!”

A spokesperson for West Sussex County Council said:

“We were called to a fire in a bin store on Sunningdale Court, Crawley at 8pm last night. Two fire engines attended the scene. Four breathing apparatus, one high pressure hose reel and one jet were used to extinguish the fire.”

Sussex Police commented saying:

“At 8.07pm on Tuesday (17 September) we were informed that West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was attending a shed bin on fire at Sunningdale Court, Southgate, Crawley. No police action necessary. “
