“A majority of Crawley people voted for Brexit and the town’s democratic choice must be respected. Once Brexit is done we can deliver your priorities for extra police plus more NHS and school resources.” Says Crawley’s Conservative Parliamentary Candidate, Henry Smith.

As the local MP from 2010, Henry has a strong track record of speaking up for our town, helping grow the economy and deliver new jobs for Crawley folk.

Since his first election he has turned around the savage Labour cuts, such as bringing services back to Crawley Hospital. Henry is continuing his campaign against Labour-contolled Crawley Council’s eye-wateringly high rent hikes which they have imposed on local independent traders in our neighbourhood parades.

Henry has patrolled with Crawley police officers and supports boosting their numbers to tackle anti-social behaviour and crime. He also has a crusade to clean up Crawley, being critical of the Labour Town Hall’s appalling litter and recycling record.

Henry believes you should keep more of the money you work hard to earn and will support further cuts to the tax burden.

Henry Smith’s six main areas for Crawley’s future are:

Investing in Crawley’s NHS is key. Labour closed our A&E in 2005 but services have been returning to Crawley Hospital with a 24/7 urgent care unit, more beds and a historic increase in NHS funding. Enhancing our town’s GP capacity is a commitment he’ll continue to pursue.

Extending opportunity – he’s helped secure a record £82.8 million of funding for Crawley schools and colleges and attracted new businesses so we’ve got increased employment. Continuing economic growth with high-quality jobs is his key aim for our town.

Better transport, better connectivity is important and Henry has successfully lobbied for millions of pounds in extra funding to upgrade local roads and railways. Expanding superfast broadband and 5G are vital too, both for individuals and businesses to connect.

A clean, green and safe town is what Henry says local residents should expect and to this end he’s pressured Crawley Council to improve their poor recycling and litter levels. Although in recent years local police numbers have not reduced he’ll work to ensure Crawley gets a good share of the 20,000 extra officers now being recruited nationally.

Supporting those who work hard and want to get on by reducing taxes as well as looking after pensioners are key priorities that Henry pledges to continue pursuing, so Crawley can live up to its motto of “I grow and I rejoice”!

Henry moved to Crawley in 1994 and has raised his young family here. In Parliament he has a record of passionately pursuing animal welfare as well as better cancer treatment and research. He has chaired a number of important committees on both major issues.

On Thursday 12th December you have a choice – Henry Smith and his strong track record of putting Crawley first or the dither, delay and division with far-left Labour who would ruin our economy.

General Election 2019

Iain Dickson – Green Party Parliamentary Candidate

(PLEASE NOTE: Below is the candidates submitted content. None of this or any other candidates content is endorsed or promoted by this publication)

I am standing as the Green Party candidate in Crawley, in the 2019 General Election.

So, why should you vote for me?

I joined the Green Party about 30 years ago because I wanted to make a difference and that difference was to put the environment and people before money making and profit as the main priority in everything we do. The Green Party offered that opportunity to me to try and bring that difference about.

Even when I joined the Greens, scientists for many years had been telling and informing UK governments amongst others around the world that a Climate Crisis is coming if we do not make serious changes. We needed to cut carbon emissions, stop using fossil fuels and replace them with renewable sources, use electric transport, change our agricultural and industrial practices and methods, think about how we dispose of the waste and pollution we create – plastic being just one example amongst many other things.

I am also appalled by the inequalities and injustices in our society and economy. In the 5th richest country in the world, why do we have 14 million people in poverty, homelessness, food banks, low wages, a huge gap between rich and poor?

Why is it we can’t afford money for the NHS, schools, social housing, police, decent wages but we can afford tax cuts for the rich and big business, wasteful projects like HS2, Trident, Hinkley Point nuclear power station and other such things.

We need to change this by ending austerity, paying people a living wage, ending zero hour contracts, properly fund vital services like the NHS, schools, social housing, etc.

A vote for me, is a vote to change this, a vote to massively alter our political system and to make you and the future generations the heart of our decision making.

Tens and hundreds of thousands in the UK and maybe millions of young people and others, around the world in groups such as Extinction Rebellion, are already becoming very aware that changes have to be made.

Businesses are now falling over themselves to announce how environmentally friendly they are – supermarkets are saying they are getting rid of plastic packaging, car manufacturers switching to electric car manufacture and so on.

It is within our reach, to make changes. We have the resources, technology and money. All we lack is the political will to bring this about. Capitalism and consumerism are not set in stone, they can be un-invented or better still adapted, so that it actually puts the needs of people and the environment first, before profits.

As your Green MP, I’ll add political will alongside other Green MPs to bring about these changes. I will ensure that we push for a green revolution where all new policies have the environment at the heart of their conception and implementation.

A vote for the Green Party is a vote for our future generations and those that cannot vote.

Vote Green 2019.
