Crawley Borough Council is set to launch a new scheme on December 3rd to fund micro and small businesses.
The Cabinet has been allocated over £80,000 from a county-wide pot. The funding is intended to pay for and support local businesses in a number of ways, including:
- Apprenticeship grants for local micro-enterprises (businesses with fewer than 10 employees) to offset the costs of hiring and training apprentices
- Grants for small business start-up, to help Crawley residents set up their own enterprises, and helping them meet business set up costs
- Grants to help existing small businesses to grow such as helping a business to pay for access to relevant training modules such as business planning, employment law and recruitment, marketing, finance.
Councillor Peter Smith, Cabinet member for Planning and Economic Development at Crawley Borough Council, said: “This new scheme can provide a fantastic way to support small business growth and encourage apprenticeships in Crawley, as part of our Employment and Skills Plan.”
“The small grants would provide vital funding to enable residents to put their business ideas into action, encourage small and micro businesses to take on apprentices and help existing small businesses to grow.”
The Councils Cabinet will be asked to approve the scheme during a meeting next Wednesday, 30th of November.
If the scheme is approved, grant applications should include an outline business plan to demonstrate how the investment will unlock business growth.
