Crawley council promises alternative festive fun as Tilgate Park’s Magical Christmas is cancelled

Published

on

With its yearly festive market, free meet and greets with Santa, funfair rides and local entertainment, the Magical Christmas event at Tilgat Park has been exactly that for years – ‘Magical’.

But the council has now had to make the hard decision to cancel it, citing the health and safety of visitors and staff is their priority as coronavirus cases continue to rise.

The say:

“This year’s event, with social distancing guidelines in place, would have meant restricting entry by ticketing and as a result would not have been able to host the number of families who normally come without tickets, dampening the magical atmosphere of the event.”

Cabinet member for Wellbeing, Councillor Chris Mullins, said:

“We are deeply disappointed to cancel this year’s event. However the safety of our visitors is paramount and most of all, we wouldn’t have been able to offer the special Christmas experience that the public have come to expect.”

But all is not lost as the council say they are looking into alternative festive events at Tilgate and in the town centre.

It is hoped the council will announce the new events soon.

Instructions
  1. Put all the ingredients, except the blueberries, in a bowl, yes that's right, just put them all in together and mix them all up, making sure they are all well combined.
  2. Once mixed add the blueberries but when mixing be gently, they may be frozen but they will defrost very quickly and you do not want to crush them.
  3. Take a muffin baking tray and line each one with a cupcake case.
  4. Use a large spoon or spatula and place a spoonful of the mixture into a case making sure you split it all evenly across all 12 cases.
  5. If you like a crunchy top add a sprinkling of sugar across the top of each one.
  6. Of course you can make larger muffins using less cases but if you do remember to add a couple of teaspoons of water to the empty cases to that all the muffins bake evenly.
  7. Put into a preheated oven at 180 degree C for 20-25 minutes
  8. Once they have risen and are brown on top take them out of the oven and let them cool down. BE CAREFUL THEY WILL BE VERY HOT!
Recipe Notes

The muffins will be scrummy for any time of the day, particularly breakfast.  You can also freeze them once they have cooled down and either let them defrost when you fancy one, or heat in the microwave (from frozen) for 30-40 seconds to give you a gooey taste sensation (AGAIN BE CAREFUL THEY WILL BE VERY HOT).
