Cheals Roundabout full opening delayed till August ’19

The Cheals Roundabout was scheduled to be fully reopened at the start of this month (June) but commuters and residents will have notice that there is still quite a bit of activity going on around it.

Investigative work being carried out by Southern Water has mean that the new left turn filter lane is to remain closed and this is resulting in the delay.

Crest Nicholson who are funding these works in association with Kilnwood Vale development in Faygate are trying to deliver a new segregated left turn filter lane leading from Horsham Road to Crawley Avenue, as well as constructing a separator island and landscaped footpaths and pedestrian crossings.

But now the works are expected to be completed by August 2019 although no exact date could be provided by Crest Nicholson.

Progress made in the area so far includes new drainage to improve overall road conditions, a new footpath on Horsham Road to ease pedestrian access and bases for the new road lanes added to the approach and exit points via Horsham.

Crest Nicholson say they have put measures in place to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum and access to surrounding properties and businesses and areas will be maintained at all times.

The Cheals Roundabout will be closed from 8:00pm to 5:00am each night during this period, with diversion routes in place. The change is required to undertake resurfacing works.

But what are the diversions and how can you ensure you know the route is right for you?

Here are the diversions being put in place:

Works are expected to be completed in June 2019 and will deliver a new segregated left turn filter lane leading from Horsham Road to Crawley Avenue, as well as constructing a separator island and landscaped footpaths and pedestrian crossings.

Lane closures on Horsham Road and Crawley Avenue will remain in place until the works programme is completed, with necessary diversion routes in place. Road users are being advised to expect delays and, where possible, to allow extra time for their journeys.

The improvements will continue to be fully funded by Crest Nicholson, in association with its nearby Kilnwood Vale development in Faygate. Progress made in the area so far includes new drainage to improve overall road conditions, a new footpath on Horsham Road to ease pedestrian access and bases for the new road lanes added to the approach and exit points via Horsham.
