The closure will put 4,500 jobs across the country at risk.

The move will mean the three branches across Crawley and their staff could be at risk.

In a statement William Hill PLC said:

“William Hill has entered into a consultation process with retail colleagues over plans to close around 700 licensed betting offices. This follows the Government’s decision to reduce the maximum stake on B2 gaming products to £2 on 1 April 2019. Since then the company has seen a significant fall in gaming machine revenues, in line with the guidance given when the Government’s decision was announced in May 2018.

A large number of redundancies is anticipated with 4,500 colleagues at risk. The Group will look to apply voluntary redundancy and redeployment measures extensively and will be providing support to all colleagues throughout the process.

Subject to the outcome of the consultation process, shop closures are likely to begin before the end of the year.”

The expansion of Argos stores within Sainbury’s continues with one now opening inside Crawley’s West Green store.

With huge pressure from online stores Argos has had to find a way to survive and its partnership with Sainsbury’s has seen the store evolve considerably.

Argos is now relying on what they call their ‘market-leading Fast Track Delivery and Click & Collect‘ and says that around 20,000 products can be ordered for same day collection in store and for home delivery in as little as four hours.

The new store will also have a Pay@Browse area with tablets that allow customers to make purchases for their products instead of the old catalogues and paper/pencil combination.

Martin Cawdry, Sainsbury’s West Green Store Manager said:

“We are thrilled to welcome the Argos team and even more fantastic colleagues to our store in Crawley.

The opening is great news for our customers, who are always looking for easier, more convenient ways to shop. We look forward to offering them an exciting range of products at fantastic value.”
