Virgin Atlantic pilots to strike at Christmas

The strike action is to be held from the 22nd Dec up to Christmas Day.

The news will likely alarm many passengers who have booked their Christmas get-away.

Virgin confirmed that the action will be by pilots from both Gatwick and Heathrow terminals but they also confirmed that they don’t anticipate disruption to flights as they move pilots around to cover shifts.

A Virgin Atlantic spokesperson said:

“A small number of our pilots have voted for industrial action. Our absolute priority is to ensure that all of our customers can continue their journeys as planned this Christmas, and we’re working hard to protect all of their trips.”

Virgin says the strike threat has come from an unrecognised union to Virgin the, Professional Pilots Union, and not from their officially recognised pilots’ union, BALPA.

It is thought that around one third of Virgins Pilots are with the PPU.

In recent tweets by the PPU they said:

Police drop investigation in alleged bullying of Oriel High School boy

Sussex Police have confirmed they have made the decision to drop an investigation into an incident of alleged bullying.

The investigation was launched following an outcry from concerned residents when a video emerged on social media.

The video has since been taken down from most social media accounts.

Earlier Susses Police had confirmed they had launched an investigation into the incident and were liaising with Oriel High School.

Now it appears their investigation has turned up new information which has led to their decision to drop the police’s involvement and hand it over to the school.

A statement from Sussex Police said:

“Police have investigated the circumstances surrounding a video on social media showing the alleged bullying of a boy by fellow students from Oriel High School in Maidenbower, Crawley.

As a result, the matter has been passed to the school for any action they feel is appropriate.”
