Another historic moment for Crawley as the new Conservative Mayor is announced

It is a time for many firsts in Crawley, many not so welcome due to the pandemic, but some have the potential to be great for the town.

Only at the start of the week did the two main political parties come together to find a workable solution to help move forward with a join-group council.

Part of the agreement was that the new mayor would come from the Conservative Party, and as a result of the parties choice of votes they elected Tilgate Cllr Francis Guidera as the towns new mayor.

Guidera’s choice of chosen charity for his year is the Manor Green College, which he has personal experience with following the attendance of his two step sons there.

In a quite emotional video he released on Wednesday night after the announcement he said:

“I’m so grateful and really humbled. I’m so proud and thank-you everybody for all the support over the years. This is a time for Crawley to shine and to work together regardless of national politics, there is not time for that now, we have to make the town as successful as it can.”

Police drop investigation in alleged bullying of Oriel High School boy

Sussex Police have confirmed they have made the decision to drop an investigation into an incident of alleged bullying.

The investigation was launched following an outcry from concerned residents when a video emerged on social media.

The video has since been taken down from most social media accounts.

Earlier Susses Police had confirmed they had launched an investigation into the incident and were liaising with Oriel High School.

Now it appears their investigation has turned up new information which has led to their decision to drop the police’s involvement and hand it over to the school.

A statement from Sussex Police said:

“Police have investigated the circumstances surrounding a video on social media showing the alleged bullying of a boy by fellow students from Oriel High School in Maidenbower, Crawley.

As a result, the matter has been passed to the school for any action they feel is appropriate.”
